Nitish Bhardwaj is an independent filmmaker and photographer with over a decade of experience working in the global development sector, where he has led digital communication verticals and crafted meaningful visual narratives for social impact. He holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Media and New Media Communication from the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, and has pursued specialised training in sound design and sound recording at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, along with a Film Appreciation course from the Film and Television Institute of India.
 
He has produced and directed award-winning short films under Two Reeler Films, including The Bones of Aching Fingers, Memories of Darkness, and Main Shikha. His work has been officially selected and recognised at several film festivals across India, with projects supported by Children’s Film Society India, UNICEF, and the Government of Jharkhand. Nitish is also a recipient of the Photography Residency by Takshila Educational Society and has received recognition from the UN - International Organization for Migration. His work is known for capturing nuanced human stories that explore identity, resilience, and community through a strong cinematic and visual lens.
 
Growing up in Bihar, Nitish’s early years were marked by first-hand experiences of trauma, migration, and social uncertainty. In the midst of these realities, cinema became his refuge — a space where stories offered comfort, hope, and perspective. What began as an escape in childhood gradually evolved into a calling. This intimate connection with memory and displacement shaped his artistic voice and ultimately led him to pursue filmmaking as a form of expression. Today, his films reflect that journey, transforming lived experience into compassionate storytelling that honours overlooked lives and celebrates human resilience.
